Historically, girls and women with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder have been underdiagnosed. ADHD in adult women is emerging as a focus of increased research, and women are being assessed for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder more commonly than in the past. ADHD assessment with adult women is a specialty of Dr. Blackmon’s, and a special interest given that accurate diagnosis and recommendations typically have a significant positive impact on her clients.

Given the importance of this topic, this blog series addresses ADHD in adult women. First, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is examined across the lifespan; specifically, its presentation in adults. Additional topics addressed by this series include symptom presentation in women with ADHD, the ways ADHD tends to present differently in women than in men, issues related to diagnosis of ADHD in adult women, treatment considerations, myths and societal expectations, and the role of hormones in women with ADHD. In the final piece in this series, outlook, prognosis, and management of symptoms are addressed.

I hope you enjoy this series. If you have follow-up questions or would like to discuss assessment for yourself or a loved one, please feel free to reach out to me, by phone at 1-512-350-7621, or email at amy@amy@amyblackmonphd.com.
